Then, the unthinkable happened.

The Banqiao Dam gave way.

A massive wall of water tore through the communities below, sweeping away homes, villages and lives. But Banqiao was only the beginning. As dams downstream began to fail, the disaster spiralled into one of the deadliest flood catastrophes in modern history.

Yet years before the catastrophe, concerns had already been raised about the region's dams and their ability to safely handle extreme flooding. Warnings were issued, recommendations were made, but not all were acted upon.

So when the rain began to fall, was Banqiao simply overwhelmed by an extraordinary natural disaster? Or had decisions made years earlier left the region dangerously vulnerable?

This is the story of the Banqiao Dam disaster — and the flood that swallowed a region.

Join your fellow Heinous fans and interact with the team at our website or through our socials (IG, TikTok) @heinous_1upmedia.

-

Love Heinous? • The Hmong Hunter | 2004 | 2/2

    8 oct 2026, 9:45 · 20 min

It's a quiet morning in the Wisconsin woods in November 2004. A group of hunters head out for what should have been an ordinary day during deer season. But before noon, a confrontation over a hunting stand would leave six people dead and two others critically wounded.

At the centre of it all was Chai Soua Vang, an Hmong immigrant and experienced hunter who claimed that what happened in those woods was a matter of survival. And yet, those who did survive told a very different story.

What began as an argument between strangers soon became one of Wisconsin’s most notorious hunting tragedies, and a case that raised difficult questions about race, fear, prejudice, and what really happened in the moments before the first shot was fired.

Part 1: We follow the events on that fateful day, uncovering the tragedy that took place, and the controversy it would soon bring forth upon the Hmong community.

Part 2: We follow the fallout as Vang goes to trial for the murders, bringing forth insight from others within the Hmong community, as well as repercussions that they would face later on.

Join your fellow Heinous fans and interact with the team at our website or through our socials (IG, TikTok) @heinous_1upmedia.

-

Love Heinous? • The Lynching of Mashal Khan | 2017 | 2/2

    25 sept 2026, 9:45 · 21 min

On April 13, 2017, a rumor moved faster than the truth ever could. Mashal Khan, a 23-year-old journalism student at a university in northern Pakistan, had spent months asking the questions no one wanted answered; about tuition hikes, about a vice-chancellor who was rarely seen on campus, about where the money was going. He wrote about it. He talked about it. And on a campus already uneasy with his outspoken, secular worldview, that was enough to make him a target.

Within hours, a rumor of blasphemy, later proven entirely baseless by a government investigation, turned into a mob of his own classmates and university staff. What happened next was a tragedy recorded on dozens of phones and watched by the entire country.

Part 1: We look into the murder of Mashal Khan and the immediate aftermath on campus, as well as his family's effort to bring justice, and to protect themselves from further harm.

Part 2: We follow the controversy following the initial sentencing, and uncover the systems and corruptions that allowed a group of students and university staff to lynch a student based on the country's blasphemy laws.

Join your fellow Heinous fans and interact with the team at our website or through our socials (IG, TikTok) @heinous_1upmedia.

-

Love Heinous? • The Virginia Tech Shooting | 2007

    15 sept 2026, 9:45 · 32 min

It's just after 7am at West Ambler Johnston Hall, a dormitory residence at the campus of Virginia Tech in the United States. A resident advisor hears strange noises in the room next to his and goes to investigate. Shortly after, police arrive on the scene, and two students are found dead in the same room that the RA went to. They proceed with their investigation and close off the dorms. They thought it was a domestic incident. They thought it was isolated. They thought it was contained.

They couldn't have been more wrong.

Over the next two hours, classes begin as scheduled. An email goes out to faculty mentioning the two students found earlier that morning, advising caution. There wasn't a lockdown. There wasn't a campus-wide alert.

And by the time those two hours were over, it would be too late for thirty more people.

Join your fellow Heinous fans and interact with the team at our website or through our socials (IG, TikTok) @heinous_1upmedia.

-

Love Heinous? • The Koh Tao Murder Mystery | 2014 |2/2

    8 sept 2026, 9:45 · 19 min

In September of 2014, the bodies of two young British tourists, Hannah Witheridge and David Miller, were discovered on the shores of Sairee Beach in Koh Tao, Thailand. At that point, Koh Tao was mostly known to the outside world as a destination island for divers, with plenty of dive schools and bars lining the beachfront. This incident however, threatened to tarnish the island's reputation, and so officials were scrambling to ensure the safety of the tourists on the island, as well as to catch the culprit responsible for the heinous crime.

But this is where the investigation turns tricky. There was no CCTV footage near the crime scene; and most of Koh Tao's residents were illegal immigrants with no proper documentation. And yet, in a few weeks following the discovery of the murders, the police were proud to announce that the culprits had been caught, and that they had confessed.

The only issue though, was that no one in the country believed them.

Part 1: We look into the island's socio-political background, so as to better understand the complicated nature of investigations inherent in this case.

Part 2: We follow the fallout and controversy following the alleged killers' withdrawal of their initial confessions; and the legal system that fought to keep them guilty.

Join your fellow Heinous fans and interact with the team at our website or through our socials (IG, TikTok) @heinous_1upmedia.

-

Love Heinous? • The Inn Din Massacre | 2017

    25 ago 2026, 9:45 · 29 min

“Don’t worry, we will send your sons back soon. We are taking them for a meeting.”

On the afternoon of September 1, 2017, ten hungry Rohingya men and boys walked out of the smoke-filled hills onto a beach in the fishing village of Inn Din, Myanmar. They hadn't eaten in five days, and the sea was the only place left to look. But instead of food, they found soldiers.

What followed was a chillingly orchestrated deception. The captive men were photographed kneeling, given clean clothes, and fed a final meal of beef to ease the worries of the families waiting outside.

But in reality, there was no meeting at all. By the next morning, they were led to scrubland at the north end of the village where a single, freshly dug mass grave was already waiting, and they were never seen alive again.

Join your fellow Heinous fans and interact with the team at our website or through our socials (IG, TikTok) @heinous_1upmedia.

-

Love Heinous?
In 1999, Jessica Lall was shot twice at a crowded party in Delhi, in front of dozens of witnesses, at point-blank range, over the simple fact that the bar was closed and she wouldn't serve him anymore drinks.

On its surface, this should have been one of the most straightforward murder cases in Indian legal history. But what transpired would bewilder and enrage an entire nation; because the man accused of pulling the trigger somehow managed to leave the court a free man.

What should have been straightforward justice was instead dragged out over the course of seven long years, all unravelling in a tangled mess involving nearly 300 witnesses, conflicting testimonies, and missing evidence. And how a city that watched the murder happen refused to let the acquittal be the end of the story.

This is the case of Jessica Lall — and the verdict that wouldn't stick.

Part 1: We explore into the events of the fateful night where Jessica Lall was shot, and the initial confusion that led to her shooter's acquittal.

Part 2: We follow the public outcry from the court's decision, which culminated in public campaigns and rallies, and the resulting outcome of this miscarriage of justice.

Join your fellow Heinous fans and interact with the team at our website or through our socials (IG, TikTok) @heinous_1upmedia.

-

Love Heinous? • Thailand's Jack The Ripper | Somkid Pumpuang | 2005

    4 ago 2026, 9:45 · 30 min

The officer who arrested him warned everyone that there would be more victims, but no one bothered to listen. In 2005, Somkid Pumpuang was taken in as the main suspect behind 5 murders. But when faced with the charges, he did not resist, and even outright confessed to the crimes, which led him to receive a life sentence instead of death.

However, what happened inside prison would be even more remarkable. Somkid became a model prisoner, so much so that his conduct earned him promotions up the prisoner classes, which resulted in his sentence being shrank 4 times. At the end, he had reduced his sentence so much that he was even able to leave a free man after 14 years. A 14 year sentence for a man who was charged with murdering 5 women.

But just as a leopard never changes its spots, a brutal criminal doesn't magically become a saint, not even after spending 14 years in jail. And it would only take 7 months for his original arresting officer to be proven right.

Join your fellow Heinous fans and interact with the team at our website or through our socials (IG, TikTok) @heinous_1upmedia.

-

Love Heinous? • They Killed Him Within Police Headquarters | 2016 |2/2

    28 jul 2026, 9:45 · 19 min

In October 2016, a South Korean businessman named Jee Ick-Joo was forcefully taken from his home in Angeles City, only for him to never be seen again. From the outside, this seemed like a brutal case of kidnapping, or maybe even a targeted attack from business rivals.

But what made this murder more chilling wasn't how Jee was abducted or killed, but the fact that it took place within Camp Crame; the National Police Headquarters of the Philippines.

• 54 Days: The Ngọc Bích Gold Shop Slaughter | Lê Văn Luyện | 2011 | 2/2

    2 jul 2026, 9:45 · 16 min

It was already morning when neighbors in Bắc Giang province noticed something wrong. The shutters to the local family owned gold shop hadn't gone up. No one had seen the owner make his usual rounds. And when someone finally forced their way in, they found a scene that would haunt the nation for years: a husband, a wife, and even their infant daughter, all slaughtered.

And in another room, an eight-year-old girl, barely breathing, her arm severed at the joint. She was the only witness. She was also, somehow, still alive.

Part 1: We take you through the horrific events of the Ngọc Bích gold shop slaughter as it unfolded, and profile the monster behind the brutal crime.

Part 2: We follow along with officers as they trace down the murderer, Lê Văn Luyện. • The Women The War Forgot - The Comfort Women | Heinous History | 1937

    23 jun 2026, 9:45 · 40 min

When Japan surrendered on the 15th of August, 1945, the world called an end to its most brutal chapter in history. Flags were lowered. Peace treaties were signed. Everyone just wanted to move on.

But nobody told the comfort women.

For years during the war, while men braved the frontlines, hundreds of thousands of women were abducted from their homes and their villages; enslaved into camps and forced to satisfy the needs of passing soldiers. Many died of disease and malnutrition, while others were killed for trying to escape. And what made it even more chilling was how bureaucratic it all was, from the kidnapping and the enslavement, to even accounting for the fees collected for each sexual encounter. And yet when the war ended, the soldiers simply left, and the women, those who actually managed to survive the atrocities, were left to deal with their trauma on their own.

In this episode, we trace the architecture of the comfort women system: who constructed it, who enforced it, and who was paid to look the other way. And we hear from the women who waited sixty years to say out loud what everyone already knew.

The world tried to forget about them and move on.

So they had no choice but to make the world remember.

Join your fellow Heinous fans and interact with the team at our website or through our socials (IG, TikTok) @heinous_1upmedia.

-

Love Heinous? • The Taipei Subway Killer | Cheng Chieh | 2014 | 2/2

    16 jun 2026, 9:45 · 19 min

It was 4:25pm on a Wednesday afternoon in Taipei. Commuters, students, strangers were on board a train on the Bannan line heading west to Jiangzicui from Longshan Temple; the longest gap between any two stations on the entire Taipei Metro network.

To anyone else, this detail wouldn't mean much, but Cheng Chieh had pondered over this for years. Later, he even revealed to investigators that he chose that specific stretch precisely because he knew it would give him more time.

And twenty seconds after leaving the Longshan Temple station, he pulled out a knife.

Passengers flooded out of the carriage when the train finally pulled into Jiangzicui, screaming for people on the platform to run. Four people were dead. Twenty-four were injured. It was the first fatal attack on the Taipei Metro since the day it opened.

Cheng Chieh was only twenty-one years old. And he had been planning this attach since childhood.

Part 1: We examine Cheng Chieh's troubled background and the conditions that led him to the attack in May of 2014.

Part 2: We dig into the fallout following Cheng Chieh's horrific metro attack, as well as the shocking revelations uncovered during his murder trial.

Join your fellow Heinous fans and interact with the team at our website or through our socials (IG, TikTok) @heinous_1upmedia.

-

Love Heinous? • The Ampatuan Massacre | 2009

    2 jun 2026, 9:45 · 29 min

On the morning of November 23, 2009, a convoy of vehicles wound through the highways of Maguindanao province in the southern Philippines. Inside were lawyers, political supporters, journalists, and the wife and family members of a man who simply wanted to run for governor.

They had no reason to believe they wouldn't make it home by nightfall. But they never did.

Armed men blocked the convoy on the highway, and herded the group to a nearby hilltop where several open graves had been dug up. Then, without warning, they opened fire.

When it was over, 58 people were dead. Among them: 32 journalists and media workers, two lawyers, and six motorists who had simply been travelling the same road. It would become the single deadliest attack against journalists ever recorded, and one of the most brazen acts of political violence in modern history. Behind it all stood the Ampatuans a powerful clan whose private army had long operated in the shadows of state power, linked to killings, torture, abductions, and a culture of fear that had gone unchallenged for decades.

This is a story about what happens when impunity becomes a way of life. About power so entrenched it believed itself untouchable. And about the long, gruelling decade-long fight to make it answer for what it did on a hillside in Maguindanao.

Join your fellow Heinous fans and interact with the team at our website or through our socials (IG, TikTok) @heinous_1upmedia.

-

Love Heinous?
On the surface, Nancy Kissel had the life people dreamed about. A luxury apartment in a posh Hong Kong neighbourhood. A high-flying husband who works in banking. Three beautiful kids. A postcard existence, by any measure.

So why, on the night of November 2nd, did she hand her husband a strawberry milkshake laced with enough sedatives to drop a man twice his size? And why, hours later, was Robert Kissel found dead and wrapped in a carpet and locked in a storage room?

The answer isn't simple. It never is. Because behind every perfect life, there are things that don't make it into the postcard. Affairs. Secrets. Years of something quietly rotting underneath, until it surfaces in the most heinous way imaginable.

Part 1 - We trace the roots of Robert and Nancy's marriage. Detailing how they first met, and where the tensions started to build up before culminating in Robert's brutal murder.

Part 2 - We follow the sensationalized trial of Nancy Kissel and the media furor that surrounded it. • The Purge at the Water’s Edge - The Sook Ching Massacre | Heinous History | 1942

    12 may 2026, 9:45 · 26 min

It was February of 1942. Singapore has just fallen to the Japanese.

But for its residents, the surrender wasn't the end of the terror, it was the beginning of something far worse. Within days, the Japanese Imperial Army rounded men up at screening centres set up across the island. Some were released, while others were loaded onto trucks. The trucks drove to Changi Beach, to Punggol, to Sentosa. And they never returned.

This is the story of the horrific period in Singapore's past known as Sook Ching; who gave the order, who carried it out, and why the full truth has never quite been allowed to surface.

Join your fellow Heinous fans and interact with the team at our website or through our socials (IG, TikTok) @heinous_1upmedia.

-

Love Heinous? • The Imperfect Perfect World | Menhaz Zaman | 2019 | 2/2

    5 may 2026, 9:45 · 19 min

It's a Sunday morning in July 2019 on a quiet street in Markham, Ontario. The kind of neighbourhood where nothing ever happens.

Somewhere across the world, in an online gaming community, messages are coming in. Photographs. A confession. Players are staring at their screens, unsure if what they're reading is real, or just another disturbing joke from the guy they know as an online troll.

But unfortunately, this wouldn't end up being just another joke. Because shortly after, four people would end up dead. A grandmother. A mother. A father. A sister. And the man who killed them is still inside the same house where he murdered them all.

Menhaz Zaman had spent years building a lie; a carefully constructed fiction about university degrees, engineering careers, and a future that never existed. And when that lie was finally about to unravel, he made a choice that no one who knew him saw coming.

Part 1 - We look into the background of the Zaman family, as well as the how the brutal family murders were carried out by Menhaz.

Part 2 - We dig into the chilling evidence uncovered by investigators as they try to make sense of this senseless crime. Online messages, warning posts, gruesome images, all signs indicating that trouble had been brewing for a lot longer than anyone had expected.

Join your fellow Heinous fans and interact with the team at our website or through our socials (IG, TikTok) @heinous_1upmedia.

-

Love Heinous?
